What is Manual Therapy?

Manual Therapy is the application of manual force in varying degrees, used to influence the connective tissue, skeletal muscles, and joints.

The goal of this targeted application of pressure is to eliminate any restriction and imbalance that alters the function of the skeletal muscles, connective tissues, and joint structures, and to reestablish the body’s normal function. In order to achieve this goal, Jorge calls upon his comprehensive and detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and pathology of the musculoskeletal system and other systems of the human body.

Jorge employs manual therapy techniques that he has developed throughout 30 years of practice.  These techniques include deep tissue massage, neuromuscular therapy, craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, various methods of stretching muscles and other soft tissue, joint mobilization, and indirect or direct functional maneuvers, among other techniques.

People from all walks of life can benefit from manual therapy treatments because virtually every activity, whether for an occupation or recreation, stresses the human body. Athletes, doctors, dentists, IT specialists, and a diverse array of people whose jobs or daily activities require them to sit or stand for long periods of time commonly experience conditions that can be treated effectively through manual therapy.

Every person is unique, and it is important to keep in mind that although some conditions may seem common or easily classified, there are many factors—such as the client’s professional activities, clinical history, and anatomical characteristics—that will impact the treatment approach. Jorge often will develop a special technique or a combination of techniques for a specific individual in order to ensure a successful treatment.

Jorge loves his profession of manual therapy because it demands intricate knowledge, continuous study, and the application of knowledge through creative physical treatment. Each patient presents specific needs, and Jorge enjoys the opportunity to craft bespoke treatments that are truly unique to each patient.
